Rain and China QQ.com collaborate to break in local entertainment market

Edaily SPN - International star, Rain will have China's largest scale website (www.qq.com) Tencent Inc.'s collaboration to win over the China market.

On July 31st, Rain's company J.Tune indicated, in order to establish strategic cooperation with Tencent Inc. Rain and QQ.com (News network) will collaborate to setup star website.

According to research, in the first half of the year 2008, QQ.com news network had over 8 billion registration users. This website's operation (communication tool "QQ") currently reaches 80% of market share in China.

J.Tune said, "Tencent Inc. sent the cooperation request to Rain, and we reached the agreement of setup its star website. This will include stars in China as well. Rain is the first artist to collaborate with QQ.com to run its star website."

Tencent Inc. will provide Rain its website address (www.rain.qq.com) and will display different slogans on related areas purpose is to bring out benefits. Rain's star website will be open at the end of August which is after the Beijing Olympic Games.

J.Tune planned from now on, through various services from QQ.com news network, they will try to win over the China entertainment market.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the short chat I had with South Korean pop sensation Rain about his starring role in James McTeigue’s V FOR VENDETTA follow-up NINJA ASSASSIN.

The footage they showed at the con was bloody and fun, so I was more than happy to chat with McTeigue (coming soon), Naomi Harris (coming soon) and Rain (here now!) about the flick.

You’ll notice that he speaks some English, but has to speak through a translator sometimes and… well, I think a little was lost in the translation, but you’ll see. Rain came across as a very gracious guy, even if the publicist pulled him away before I could ask my killer final closing question… but then again, it was a visual question anyway. I wanted him to teach me a Colbert-busting dance move. Oh well, next time.

Quint: Is this your first COMIC CON?
Rain: Yeah, it’s my first time. I am so excited!
Quint: How is it for your? Is it crazy?
Rain: Yeah. I am so happy to be here, but so crowded.
Quint: It’s great. I love that you have such a huge fan base here already from…
Rain: They are my family!
Quint: Strangely enough, it’s like I know you from COLBERT REPORT.
Rain: Oh yeah!
Quint: COLBERT is like where I first heard about you.
Rain: It’s very funny, you know one day he asked me to attend his show. I said “Of course, why not?” I went to his show and it was very funny. Did you see that?
Quint: The dance off?
Rain: It’s really funny, you know.
Quint: I loved it there. I hope that continues. I hope there is still the rivalry.
Rain: He’s my brother now.
Quint: I like that onscreen though there is still the rivalry. It’s very tongue in cheek, but I loved that. Your dance off with him was probably one of the funniest things I have seen on the show and his show is damn funny anyway…
Rain: Oh yeah!
Quint: I saw the footage for NINJA ASSASSIN. It looked great.
Rain: Thank you so much.
Quint: It’s playing to me. I love bloody ninjas jumping around movies, so…
Rain: You know, I love blood…. So sticky.
Quint: I bet it’s not fun to work with, but it reminded me a lot of like SHOGUN ASSASSIN in terms of using the blood as part of the action and kind of painting the picture. Do you think that was intentional?

Rain: Since it is a ninja movie, there has got to be a lot of blood and then for this movie, we tried to make everything real, so there was a lot of actual hitting and then when you are at the cutting scene, we actually tried to make it very real and there was a lot of influence from James. The movie was trying to stay very realistic in many ways.
Quint: Had you seen V FOR VENDETTA when you were approached for the film?
Rain: Yeah. I watched it before and it was fantastic. I like it.
Quint: It’s great isn’t it? James just seems to really have a good instinct for how to tell an interesting story and in that case a very political story, but kind of hide it in the subtext of a very entertaining action movie. Do you think he is doing something similar with NINJA ASSASSIN? Is he hiding something in the subtext?

Rain: I feel that it’s quite different from V FOR VENDETTA, because the action has been upgraded and with them there is a love story, so the romance story makes it quite different from V FOR VENDETTA keeping the underlying text out there, so a little different.
Quint: I could tell that visually it’s a little bit of a different approach. What I liked about it was how he played with the imagery of a ninja, which we really haven’t had in US cinema in a very long time. How did you enjoy being an ultimate badasses?

Rain: I was very satisfied with my role, playing a ninja in such a highly expected movie and since the action is very upgraded, it’s not going to disappoint you.
Quint: Was it you in the bathroom sequence? I couldn’t tell because it was cut so quickly in the trailer.

Quint: What was that like, because that was my favorite stuff in the footage.
Rain: It is my favorite scene.

Rain: It was a very interesting scene, because I was actually holding a doll to slam it into the toilet and there was like blood all over me, slimy and slippery, but it was so very fun, because I was actually hitting it.
Quint: You were hitting it, just using a dummy.
Rain: Right, but I did all of the action sequences myself.

Rain: I actually had to be a crazy person in this scene, so for that little moment I was really actually out of my mind.
Quint: Nice!
Rain: It was a very interesting scene.
Quint: Very cool, that seems like a really cool scene. I think they are pulling you away, but thank you so much. It was good meeting you.

Rain: "It's a new style of kungfu, takeonedo, tai chi, so diffrent, it's simply ninja. Ninja movments, ninja action, ninja expressions. Since last December i learned and trained a lot of this martial arts."

Raizo was brought up in a forster home what was run by the clan. There he got trained as killer. As his best friend was killed of this clan he swore for revenge.

In Berlin Mika discovered the clan and killers were set on her. Raizo and Mika are fighting together against the murderer and a hunt all over Europe is starting.

Naomi: "I did not really watch Ninja movies in the past, but I'm intressted in the Ninjas in this specila group with their special skills. Cause of this I'm intressted in Ninjas as much as in Mika's character.

Fan's of this genre will be happy with it, but the have to be patient, the movie will not come to the cinemas before January 2009.

OK, I just got back from the fan meeting in Korea and want to write up this account so that hopefully those of you who can’t get there can at least “have a feel” of the day.

Seoul is raining, and it’s raining the morning we arrived at Olympic Park. Queues everywhere: ticket collection, souvenir, gifts drop off, donations, messages posting. It was therefore a bit difficult for us to find a good spot to distribute the Any Dream DVD that we purchased for Rain-America members.

I will skip the rest and go straight to the fan meeting…

Rain started by singing “Not a single day”, and of course we all stood up and cheered and sang with him! There was smoke on the stage and he sang behind a curtain so we can’t see him very clearly. When the set changed and he emerged and sang “How to avoid the sun” it made us all scream and yell, particularly when he did the killing pelvic moves!!! He is just so hot and sexy and sensational….

He then introduced the MC, Kim Jaedong. And we all cheered for him too. As predicted, Kim didn’t fail to touch Rain here and there, as he always did at past fan meetings, just to excite us. And of course he succeeded. Who wouldn’t want to touch the strong arms, the smooth skin, the handsome face?!

They sat on two chairs and started talking. The talk was all in Korean, which I don’t understand at all. But in between I could hear “Ninja Assassin” a couple of times. And at one point someone brought out what seemed to be the stand of a microphone. I believed Kim wanted Rain to demonstrate his sword fighting skills in the movie and the staff took out this stand as a “sword”. Rain tried to either shorten the “sword” or break it in two, we saw him twisting the “sword” but even with his strong arms it didn’t break, so we all uttered disappointment when he gave the “sword” back to the staff!

The first cloud performance is by Cloud Junior, 4 young, chubby kids (whom I found out later to be 3 girls and 1 boy). They dressed in shining, cool outfit and danced to Rain’s songs – one of them is “Instead of saying goodbye”. They were so cute. We all know Rain loves kids, and he demonstrated this totally when he hugged and ruffled their hair and spoke to them. I think one of the kids must have said that she likes Rain better than Kim (or Rain is better than Kim – totally guess work), because Rain gave a big smile while Kim pretended to be rather dejected. Rain gave the kids hugs and hugs again. It’s so funny and touching to see a big giant kid hugging a much shorter, smaller kid!

The second performance is by Cloud Taiwan – Rain 24 hours the day. Very funny and entertaining and Could Taiwan did a fantastic job. They held a long scroll showing different pictures of Rain. Rain looked at each picture and told us “this is Sandoo.., this is 1st album, etc.” And then he saw his high school student photo and said something – my guess is he pretended he is not too happy with this not very handsome Rain photo (I have to use imagination sometimes so if I am wrong please excuse me).

A cake was brought out and after Rain blew the candles, Kim counted 3 and we all said out aloud “Rain sang rang hae yo”, while waving our silver tassle or holding out red cards. I guessed the red cards either made some kind of symbol or showed his name, but I am not sure.

Game time. And I missed the moment of my life! When Rain announced C2 (that is the area I am allocated) my heart banged, and when he said Row 6 No. 6 my heart sank, because I am on Row 7 No. 7!!!

There were a number of games. The one I could have participated (my own consolation) is hula hoop play off. Rain was asked by Kim to give a demonstration first, and he deliberately did it very badly, and the hula hoop slipped off quite instantly. But when the play off began, OMG, forget about the hula hoop, just look at his waist and body movement! I was totally sucked into it – the waist is so tender, so sexy and Rain is not playing hula hoop, he is showing off his wonderful, flexible body. Now I don’t envy the C266 girl, I really envied the hula hoop!

Another game is hand wrestling. Imagine you are picked to hold hands with Rain and do wrestling! Will you go berserk? That’s what the lucky Korean fan did. She was all hyper and Rain was so nice. He hugged her and let her hold him and cried. She held Rain’s hand, and Kim separated their hands and put Rain’s pinkie into her hand instead. (Kim is doing all tricks to make sure fans win). But even so the Korean fan seemed to have difficulty to win – not because Rain is so strong, it’s just she is so excited I think she could hardly move her hand! (Or may be she doesn’t want to move and want to continue to hold Rain’s pinkie!!)

Gift opening time. Piles of gifts were on the stage, and tons are packed in boxes not even opened. Rain chose to open a few gifts – laptop, sneakers, a lion dance kit, Chinese calligraphy etc. But here I am really disappointed that he did not have the chance to open the very special gift from many clouds collectively – cloud members who sent in their Speed Racer tickets, which were posted as background for a Speed Racer race track which can be illuminated. It was a wonderful gift because many members have contributed to this.

It’s Raining. On stage. Here we went wild again. We all stood up, screamed and sang with him. But at the same time I feel sad, because I know it is near the end - Rain performed the song and the dance and then disappeared.

After shouts of encore, Rain re-appeared, this time in mid air, singing “With you” and throwing out packets of candies from a basket. To me, he seems a flying prince, throwing out rescue ropes to all the princess waiting for him. And to me, he is so near, yet so far.

And the prince was gone.

But the ending will be happy, because we will see him again, and this time it’s not going to be too long.
